Shakyamuni Buddha at Nanjing China

Shakyamuni Buddha’s face made from luminous beads dangling from the ceiling at the Nanjing Buddhism exhibition in China.

What leads to this Buddha image is 7 lotuses on the ground – representing the 7 steps that the newly born baby Prince Siddartha (who was to become the Buddha) took just after he was born.

With each step, a lotus sprang from the ground to support his feet – after which he held 1 finger pointing up the the sky and 1 finger pointing to the ground, indicating that he was not like anyone else found up above in the heavens nor below on earth.
